Captain Bob Candopoulos |
Captain Bob Candopoulos is the founder of Saltwater Safari Company and Saltwater Safari Tours and has spent more than 40 years plying the waters of the Kenai Fjords National Park and the Chiswell Islands, Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge. Capt. Bob is skipper of the 53’ Legend and is licensed by the US Coast Guard as Master of Vessels up to 100 Gross Tons. He is heralded as one of the most sought after guides in Alaska and has appeared on numerous television programs. Capt. Bob has sailed all over Alaska, including time spent in the Arctic in both the Beaufort and Chukchi Sea’s and has worked extensively with scientists and naturalists on many Alaskan projects. During the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill, Captain Bob worked with the US Fish & Wildlife Service and was the Marine Mammal Capture Coordinator responsible for overseeing the rescue of Sea Otters, Seals and birds affected by the devastating spill. He has also worked very closely with the Alaska Department of Fish & Game, Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences on several fisheries studies, including the pioneer studies of the Salmon Shark which inhabit these water. His many years of experience, combined with his intimate knowledge of the region and wildlife that inhabit it is unsurpassed. For over 4 decades Captain Bob has made Seward Alaska his home and his love to share his Alaska with visitors will become very evident the moment you step aboard his boat! |
Captain Bobby Savino |
Captain Bobby is one of the owners of Saltwater Safari Company and started working for the brand in 2008. He is the nephew of Capt. Bob Candopolous and has logged 10s of thousands of hours working on our fleet of vessels where he learned everything he knows today about boating and the local knowledge of the region. In the earlier part of his maritime career, he worked several years up in the Alaska Oil Fields in Prudhoe Bay on passenger vessels as well as a Tug and Barge that would haul out heavy equiptment and machinery to and from the oil rigs. At the age of 22, he recieved his United States Coast Guard License as Master of Vessels up to 100 Gross Tons and started operating our fleet of vessels in 2012 but is primarily Master of the 53′ Legend During the Offseason, Capt. Bobby spends his winters in Central Florida guiding tours in the Everglades! Between our summer season in Alaska and his winter season down in florida, he has guided so many guest from around the world in seeing nature the way its intended to be seen and you’ll be sure to enjoy him as your guide on a tour with us! |
Captain Noah Wamsteker |
Joining our company in 2017, Capt. Noah predominantly spent his time working as the First Mate for Capt. Bob Candopoulos on the Legend where he gained an immense amount of knowledge of the the region we are in here in Alaska. During his first few seasons with us, he developed a passion for guiding our customers from all over the world to show them what Alaska has to offer! Growing up in Mobile Alabama, he spent majority of his childhood boating in the Gulf Of Mexico where some of the best saltwater fishing is located in the country. In 2021 he recieved his United States Coast Guard License as Master of Vessels up to 100 Gross Ton and runs all our vessels collectively but is primarily Master of the 43′ Renegade. |
Captain Camden Tait |
Captain Camden joined the Saltwater Safari team during the 2023 season. With a rich work history in the maritime profession, Camden has run boats and yachts all over the world with majority of his boating experience coming from Saint Thomas, one of the main islands in The U.S. Virgin Islands. Home to some of the most amazing blue water fishing the world has to offer, Capt Camden developed a true passion for yachting and has been able to carry all of that knowledge up here to Alaska with great sucess! Lifelong friend of Capt Noah, the two of them have spent their lives on the water together and have developed into a great one two punch for our company! In 2017, he received his United States Coast Guard License as Master of Vessels up to 100 gross tons and operates all 3 of our vessels collectively, primarily operating the 53′ Legacy for us. |

The 53 foot Legend and 53 foot Legacy, built by Delta Marine Industries, are the pride of the fleet and outfitted with the most serious sport-fisherman in mind. These fast, powerful, long-range fishing machines are powered by twin Caterpillar 660 hp diesel engines and are capable of speeds in excess of 25 knots. They are designed to withstand the inclement conditions that are sometimes associated with the Alaska Gulf Coast. These vessels are inspected by the U.S. Coast Guard annually and have always met or exceeded their stringent requirements. |

Added to our fleet in 2022, the 43 foot Renegade is also a product of Delta Marine Industries and has been a staple in the Pacific North West Sportfishing scene for decades. She’s powered by twin Cummins QSC 8.3l 600 hp diesel engines and is capable of speeds i excess of 25 knots. This vessel is also inspected annually and meets all requirements of safety by the U.S. coast guard |
